Clicker Heroes 1.0e12 - Clans 2.0
Hey Heroes! Today we’re releasing a new update to Clicker Heroes that completely revamps the Clans system. Thanks to all of you that participated in the beta! New Raid System: We have revamped the entire clan tab with a new UI and a whole new raid system. The new raid system rewards two currencies: Rubies and Immortal Souls New Feature: Raid Progression -- Immortal Souls can be used to increase your level and thus, increase your damage per click against Immortals. -- While you'll start off gaining only small amounts of rubies, the stronger you grow, the more rubies you'll earn by defeating higher level Immortals. New Feature: Raid Classes. -- Raids now have you choose one of the three classes to do battle against Immortals: Rogue, Mage, or Priest -- Immortals are weak to a different one of the classes everyday so work with your raid to have all the types covered. New Feature: Bonus Fights. -- After completing an Immortal for the day, your clan has the option to buy an additional fight for rubies based on the level of the Immortal. -- The bonus fight allows you to gain even more Rubies and Immortal Souls per day. -- Only one member has to pay for the whole clan so work with your clan to spread the wealth. New Feature: Immortal Locking. -- Immortals in the new system are much tougher than before and some will require farming in order to beat. -- Clan Masters will be able to stop the automatic progression of Immortal fights so that they can stay on an Immortal they can beat and therefore continue to get rewards. New Feature: Check-In -- Not every Immortal will take your entire roster of ten to beat so as long as you show up for the day, even if the Immortal is dead, you can check-in for the rewards. Apart from those features, here are some other key differences compared to the old system: -- Only 3 Autoclickers are allowed in the fight at a time -- The fight timer is 16 seconds -- Only the best of your scores counts against the Immortal but you can pay 10 rubies to try to improve your score. Legacy Raid System: If you liked the old system, you can still do those! The old raid system has been renamed to "Legacy Raids" In the new UI, it has been placed in the third tab from the top b]Miscellaneous: We have revamped the entire clan tab with a new UI that should hopefully make clans easier to communicate with and manage. There is now an option to respec your clan class in the options menu. Bugfixes: Fixes a bug that prevented HZE from going over 1,000,000 in the clan roster. Fixes a bug that allowed Autoclickers to deal damage after the timer ended on Immortals. Various bugfixes.

Clicker Heroes 2 ditches free-to-play in favor of cleaner conscience
Can you hear the people click? Clicking the song of angry men? The Clicker Heroes devs couldn’t, but they’re nonetheless changing their business model so that the studio can have a “cleaner conscience”. Clicker Heroes 2, the sequel to the idle game that Graham describes as “Diablo s metagame with the participative act of exploration and combat removed”, will have an upfront cost of $29.99 rather than in-game purchases. Clicker Heroes studio abandons upcoming sequel's free-to-play model for "ethical reasons"
Clicker Heroes developer Playsaurus has announced that it's abandoning the free-to-play model for its upcoming sequel Clicker Heroes 2, for "ethical reasons". The original Clicker Heroes - a 2015 mini-phenomenon, and a game which sent Eurogamer contributor Jon Blyth tumbling into a pit of existential despair - set players the task of defeating an endless procession of monsters in an infinitely deep dungeon in order to accrue increasingly preposterous quantities of gold. Like all clickers, you could either take care of the primary goal yourself, by manually clicking away at enemies, or you could spend all your hard-earned gold to automate the process through new hero acquisition and upgrades so you barely had to interact with the game at all. And like most free-to-play games, Clicker Heroes featured a shop, where you could purchase even greater automation with real money. Read more…
Clicker Heroes 2 drops free to play model over developer's ethical concerns
Clicker Heroes, released in 2015, is a (very) slightly more interactive version of Progress Quest, the faux-RPG that plays itself. You click on enemies, they die, you pick up the gold they drop, and use it to hire more powerful heroes—which is to say, increase the amount of damage you do when you click. It's impossible to die, and if you need to go away for awhile, it will kill monsters all by itself, although at a somewhat slower rate. It's ridiculous, and oddly popular, and also free to play: For ten bucks, you can purchase one of four packages that adds a new skin and a high-speed auto-clicker, and there's also an in-game currency called "rubies" that can be used to to buy various boosters and upgrades. The sequel, coming next year, won't be taking that route, however. Instead, it will carry a pay-up-front price of $30, with an option for a full refund for a year after it comes out for anyone who preorders. The problem, developer Playsaurus explained in a blog post, isn't that free-to-play didn't work, but that it worked too well. "In Clicker Heroes 1, we never tried to abuse players with our real-money shop, and for the most part we designed it without the shop in mind so that you never have to purchase rubies to progress. Despite this, we found that some number of players spent many thousands of dollars on rubies. I can only hope that these people could afford it, and that they were doing it to support us, and not to feed an addiction. But I strongly suspect that this is not the case," developer Fragsworth wrote. "We made a lot of money from these players who spent thousands. They are known to the industry as 'Whales'. Great. If you're rich, please be my guest. But we don't want this kind of money if it came from anyone who regrets their decision, if it made their lives significantly worse as a result." Improving the underlying design is also a big factor in the decision. "We want the experience to be good," they continued. "The mere existence of real-money purchases puts an ugly cloud over the player's experience, with the persistent nagging feeling of 'My game could be so much better if I just spent a few dollars'. That alone feels terrible." Having a real-money store also impacts how the game is rebalanced in updates, as people who spent money for a particular kind of experience can end up feeling hosed. "We've experienced this many times in the past," Fragsworth wrote. "As a result, Clicker Heroes 1 is kind of a frankenstein of a game, our hands always having been tied by the fact that we couldn't easily change things that people paid for." As a premium-priced game, Clicker Heroes 2 can be updated "without too much regard to player process," similar to games like Dwarf Fortress. Players who like the changes can dive in, while those who don't can carry on with the old version, without being unduly penalized. Eliminating microtransactions also opens the door to mods, which is something Playsaurus wasn't able to support in the first game. Despite the change in direction for Clicker Heroes 2, the original Clicker Heroes will be left as-is. "Most people are OK with how we've handled it. Our unlimited refund policy still stands," Fragsworth wrote. "But going forward we're going to at least try the paid-up-front model for our business. It may or may not work. It probably isn't worth nearly as much money, but at least we can do it with a cleaner conscience."
